It’s difficult to know where to start with this property as it offers so many exciting possibilities. Our first thought was the creation of a fantastic wellness and creative shared space with accommodation, studios, workshops and galleries, retaining the clear-span spaces and that industrial feel. We have seen similar projects, taking former sugar factories in the area and creating dynamic and exciting spaces for art and creativity and this has all the necessary attributes.

Alternatively, the property could be converted into affordable housing - possibly 17 apartments.

Finally, there is space here to create a hotel, tourism apartments or a large Bed & Breakfast.

The structure is as solid as a rock and the entire building has recently been rewired. The floors are extremely thick to bear weight, and so the sound insulation throughout os excellent. Throughout, there are the recent reminders of the building’s past: large metal factory doors, elevators, weighbridges, solid concrete pillars and beams. Even the ropes used for hanging and drying the hams remain in place.

The key to this structure is that there are vast open spaces that would be perfect for use as gallery space, or studios for art, dance or music. Then, there is still room for accommodation in order to run residential workshops.

The historic village of Colomera is tucked away in the middle of spectacular landscapes and yet it is only 29 kms from central Granada, making it very accessible for visitors. Yet, when here in this location, surrounded by reminders of Roman and Visigoth predecessors, it is easy to forget the noise and hubbub of the outside world. Judicious use of this building would play an important part in the sustainability of this village, drawing in visitors who want to stay and enjoy this rural corner of Andalucia.

The BBC One programme, ‘Amanda and Alan’s Spanish Job’ was filmed across Andalucia throughout the summer of 2024. Amanda Holden and Alan Carr bought an abandoned village house in Moclín through Granada Village & Country, and the historic village was the main focus for the programme, following Alan and Amanda’s progress as they restored the property.

‘Amanda and Alan’s Spanish Job’ will be shown on BBC One from 24th January 2025 and will be available on iPlayer.

The restored property will be available for sale through Granada Village & Country, and featured on Rightmove, at the end of the series.
