It is said that location is everything when it comes to property. This well-engineered property is a great example.

The owner was an engineer, influenced by Finnish architecture and design, and the end result shows that sort of attention to structural detail. That notwithstanding, the house sits on a very beautiful plot of land, extending down a very gentle slope and without the harshness of some rural plots of land. There is little that is harsh about the meadows planted with holm oaks, almonds and olives that surround the house.

The house was designed to take advantage of the glorious views and to allow light to flood the interior spaces. The property is very well-insulated and it is equipped for all seasons: air-conditioning, heating, a wood-burning stove. The windows are all double-glazed and the property would make a supremely comfortable home.

There is the option to complete the loft area, as well. This has been partially built and provides space for 1 or 2 more bedrooms and an additional shower room with very little effort.

The property is split-level. The front door opens from beneath a colonnaded terrace into a generous hall that extends to one side as an open-plan, galleried study area. On this upper level, there are the two bedrooms and a shower room.

A short flight of wide and comfortable stairs leads down to the main living areas. This floor is also laid on a series of levels:

Dining room open to a kitchen from where there is a glazed door out onto the terrace.

From the dining room, a short flight of stairs leads to the first of the living rooms - all these main reception areas are open to each other, without full height walls, and yet they all feel independent.

In this ‘summer’ living room, there is a large picture window that looks out over the garden towards the mountains beyond; it’s a lovely space.

On a slightly lower level there is a ‘winter’ living room: a large, square reception room with a wood-burning stove in one corner, all designed to be cosy in the cooler months. Off this living room, there is a large store room and a second shower room.

From the entrance hall, there is another small staircase that leads up to the loft area. This huge space has been partially converted to provide additional accommodation. On the first level, there is a large attic store room and space to put a bathroom with adjacent clothes/dressing room. Up a further flight of stairs there are two large rooms - a bedroom and perhaps a sitting room?

    Outside

The land surrounding the property, running to 2 hectares, is beautiful and the views beyond are stunning. It is peaceful and bucolic and very natural. Outside the house, there is a very spacious terrace, capturing the sun during every part of the day. The land is flat enough to install a pool, and gentle enough to enjoy all corners of the plot, surrounded by trees and meadow. The neighbouring farmer currently grazes his little donkey beneath the shade pf these trees.

There is a short track that runs from the road down to the first of the house, and there is plenty of space for parking.

The BBC One programme, ‘Amanda and Alan’s Spanish Job’ was filmed across Andalucia throughout the summer of 2024. Amanda Holden and Alan Carr bought an abandoned village house in Moclín through Granada Village & Country, and the historic village was the main focus for the programme, following Alan and Amanda’s progress as they restored the property.

‘Amanda and Alan’s Spanish Job’ will be shown on BBC One from 24th January 2025 and will be available on iPlayer.

The restored property will be available for sale through Granada Village & Country, and featured on Rightmove, at the end of the series.
